Kind Words Can Never Die is the first public exhibition of Jane Webster’s comprehensive collection of Victorian stitched mottos. These textiles represent a fascinating intersection of mass production and hobby craft; the printed cardboard backings are a product of industrial manufacture while the colourful stitches are the unique work of individual makers. The mottos are shown alongside captivating photographs that tell the story of the collector and attest to the pleasure this lovingly displayed collection brought into the lives of Jane’s friends and family.
Monday, May 1 More dates through June 25, 2017 Textile Museum of Canada 55 Centre Ave, Toronto, ON M5G 2H5
